Street & Co is tucked away in a lovely old building on a side street in Old Port in Portland, Maine. As we came in the door, I could see the bar was filled with people enjoying the ambiance and a good glass of wine. We were a bit early for our reservation, so sat near the bar area and enjoyed appetizers and drinks while we were waiting. I ordered a Limoncello, which is made by Street and Company. It was incredibly smooth and a nice start to my evening meal.
We had one little one with us who wanted a mild dinner. The waitress made a few suggestions, including asking the chef to make him a plate of buttered noodles. His more adventurous brother ordered Mussels Provencal with Garlic, White Wine and Butter (12.95). The bread was excellent and went well with the rich broth from the mussels. (So well that he wasn’t the only one dipping bread in the plate!)
I went with the incredible Maine Lobster and Leek Bread Pudding with Shallot-Madeira Cream (14.95). Out of this world. Seriously. Bread pudding seems too mundane a word for this tender, delicious thing.
We ate a lot of great food during our trip to Maine, but Street & Co definitely was the best all around meal and experience. We enjoyed every second of our dinner, from the friendly wait staff to the exceptional food.
